Why I Sew

Ever since I started Fabric Mutt, I've been very careful with my children's privacy. You hear a lot about Bunny, Bear & Mouse on here and sometimes you catch a little glimpse of them, but that's about it. So it was kind of a big deal when my husband and I decided that it would be special to include a picture of my girls in Sew Organized for the Busy Girl.

These little girls make me absolutely crazy sometimes, yet they make life so good. When I think about sewing, it's almost impossible for me to not think of them at the same time because they've been right there with me from the beginning. How many hours have I spent working at my sewing machine with them standing on their tiptoes by my side to see what I'm making? How many packages have I opened to a chorus of, "Oh Mommy, it's so pretty!" and immediately had three more hands reaching out to pet the new fabric? How many times have I checked on them in the night and felt a little emotional to see them cuddling in their sleep with the quilts we made together?

I look at these pictures, and I'm reminded that this is why I sew. I really believe that sewing has made me a better mommy in so many ways. It not only gives me the chance to burn off the stress that comes with parenthood, but it allows me to bring something beautiful into my children's lives, to show them that you're never too busy to be creative and that it's never too late to learn something new.

So let me introduce you to (from left to right) Mouse, Bunny & Bear...my favorite people in the whole wide world.

They will love being able to look at their Mom's book and see themselves in it time after time, year after year, and then going into new generations and new little hands. 19. First - cute a button all three. Second - I know where you're coming from when it comes to your kids and the internet. Having two teens I too have had to make that decision about when to let them loose on the world wide web when they were younger. You made the right choice.
I started sewing again to relieve the stress (and boredom) of being unemployed and my kids have been very supportive (not to mention lots more of the "will you make me one of these?" moments).

  22. Good morning Heidi, and thanks for sharing your precious little girls with us. Everything we do in life is with our children in mind, and they are with us for such a short period of time, and then they leave, but then come the grandchildren, and you think your heart will burst with pride, and if you are very fortunate, the great grandchildren will come along and provide you, yet again, with more of life's beautiful miracles to fill your life with joy. I hope you will be as fortunate as we are to have 6 darling little great granddaughters in our lives, who really love twirly nightgowns and little quilts for their dolls. lv2bquilting2@comcast.net

  32. Dear Heidi,
Let me start by sending a hugs to Mouse, Bunny and Bear! My copies of Sew Organized arrived today and what a WONDERFUL job you did on your first book, Heidi. I am going to savor reading every word, even though I'm no seamstress, as you know. My sewing friends who will receive a gift copy each will enjoy it so much! I'm glad that the girls' Daddy was very supportive. :-)
    Love,
    G'ma Mary
