about me

For those of you who are visiting for the first time, welcome to Fabric Mutt! Sewing has been an incredible adventure for me since I picked it up again in 2011. After being a teacher for nine years and an assistant principal for one, I decided to become a stay-at-home mom in 2009. It was a big change for me after working since I was a teenager, and it took a while for me to find my balance. When my mom brought a new sewing machine into our home in the fall of 2011, she opened up a whole new world to me. I immediately began looking for inspiration on the web, and I was amazed at the treasure trove that I found in the online quilting community. By the end of December 2011, I decided to start Fabric Mutt as a way to share my projects with my out-of-state family as well as track my own progress. It’s been amazing to connect with so many other people around the world who love to sew!

My family makes our home in the beautiful hill country of Texas. My husband and I bought a home with my parents for the first time in Southern California back in 2008, and we liked it so much that we all moved to the San Antonio area together to purchase a big rambling home in a more rural area. We also share the space with our three girls, affectionately known as Bunny (15), Bear (13), and Mouse (12). It’s a fantastic situation for us, and we enjoy lots of family time together. Between daily responsibilities and homeschooling my daughters, sewing doesn’t always happen as easily as I’d like it to, but I manage to fit it in as I go along.

In 2015, I published my first book with Stash Books through C&T Publishing. Sew Organized for the Busy Girl gives you lots of ideas and projects to help you make time to sew in the midst of a busy life. In 2016, I became a fabric designer for Riley Blake Designs, and I've been able to design 3 collections for them: Five & Dime, Date Night, and Shortcake. I've also enjoyed writing patterns for a variety of sewing magazines including American Patchwork & Quilting, Quilts & More, and Love Patchwork & Quilting. In 2019, I released my second book through Lucky Spool Media. Patchwork USA is a collection of simple, colorful projects that can be sewn in a day, weekend, or longer stretch of time. Styled with a vintage travel theme, this book is packed with great ideas for sharing your sewing with others, whether you're on the road or sewing at home.

Be sure to visit the Tutorials page for links over 40 free patterns that I've written, and email me any time using the contact form on the sidebar or feel free to leave a comment on any of my posts.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I appreciate all of my readers so much. It's a joy to share a small part of my life with you!

Happy sewing!
